Power restored to thousands of Hydro One customers

There are 2,004 Hydro one customers affected in the Onaping/Cartier area up to Halfway Lake Provincial Park, with an estimated time of restoration 9:45 p.m.

Hydro One's outage map no longer shows any outages in the Greater Sudbury area.

A winter weather travel advisory remains in place through Monday for the area.

Hydro One is reporting there to be 2,004 customers without power tonight in the Onaping/Cartier area, stretching north almost to just outside of Halfway Lake Provincial Park.

They also report an additional 2,274 customers without power throughout another wide swath of the Greater Sudbury area.

The estimated time of restoration for these two outages is 9:45 p.m., according to the Hydro One outage map.

They also report a scattering of smaller outages in the Greater Sudbury area affecting fewer than 20 customers each. These have estimated restoration times of between 10:15 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. tonight.

On Dec. 4, Hydro One posted on social media to prepare for potential outages and to stay clear of fallen power lines.

Although they were referencing a prior winter weather event, the Greater Sudbury area is currently under another winter weather travel advisory.

The advisory, issued by Environment Canada this morning and cautioned of snow, heavy at times, with accumulations of five to 10 centimetres, beginning tonight and lasting through Monday.
